Copacabana

Inspired by Roberto Burle Marx’s iconic pavement that lines Copacabana Beach, it translates the continuous movement of waves into fluid and hypnotic lines. The design, originally conceived to guide walkers along the sea, has become a timeless symbol of the encounter between nature and the city.

Created in the 1970s, this visual language was not restricted to Brazil. Roberto himself brought the same concept to other coastal landscapes, including the Cascais Promenade and Rossio Square, reinforcing his vision of public spaces that invite a slower pace.

Like the pavement that inspired it, this piece alternates between contrast and harmony, presence and lightness. Its curves dynamically capture light, creating soft shadows that add depth to the environment.

Copacabana was designed for those who value design with a narrative, objects that not only illuminate but also convey meaning. It maintains the artisanal character of Lume Waves while introducing a strong and contemporary graphic expression, capable of standing out in both minimalist interiors and more expressive environments.
